Safe Server Loads
One of the problems with a shared server is that there may be times when the server loads are overwhelmed and performance is compromised. There is a way to tell exactly what is going on with your server but you will need to learn how to negotiate your control panel on the server and it will probably be labeled as Server Status. What you are looking for is a number that is most often under a format that looks like “x.xx.” Usually the values will start from 0.00 and the smaller the number the better it is. Unfortunately, you will need to know more than just the value – you will need to know what that number means in terms of Server Status.
First of all, the number expresses how many processes are queued and waiting for access to the processor. Secondly, you need to understand that this is a calculation of how much time is involved, so the smaller the number, the shorter your wait time. A higher number will usually result in significantly decreased performance. Therefore, safe server loads will be anything lower than 1.00 with 0.xx being the safest. If the number is sufficiently low and you are still having problems there is a chance that you have a problem with your local computer.
