Disadvantages of Shared Hosting

Shared web hosting is the cheapest, and perhaps the most popular form of web hosting available. In fact, most novice webmasters begin their internet endeavors by purchasing a cheap shared hosting plan to start. While there are some instances in which shared hosting would be ideal, in many cases this hosting type can present some serious road blocks for fast growing sites and online business owners that need serious reliability. In a shared hosting plan you are actually sharing a single web server with dozens, maybe even hundreds of other webmasters. Each of your fellow webmasters could have several dozen sites urning within their hosting account.

Because of this shared hosting environment, many times the server can become overloaded, and usually requires maintenance and administration much more often than other types of hosting environments. As a result of the limited amount of server resources available to each webmaster, the bandwidth and disk space allocated to each site may be less than optimal. In most cases, if you’re visiting a site that is loading very slowly, it is probably being hosted on a shared hosting plan. Even so, shared hosting has its distinct advantages, and it is definitely suitable for the novice webmasters on a budget. However it is imperative to choose a reliable hosting provider.
