VPS Hosting vs. Dedicated Hosting

VPS Hosting vs. Dedicated Hosting

VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting is often called a cross between shared hosting and dedicated hosting, and certainly shares similarities with both of these hosting types. On one hand, VPS hosting is similar to shared hosting because the webmasters is utilizing segments of the server (or network of servers) at any given time. On the other hand, VPS hosting is similar to dedicated hosting because of the amount of server resources you're given. Being that VPS hosting is generally cheaper than dedicated hosting, some people believe it is more suitable for the average web site owner.

Dedicated hosting is more expensive for a reason though, because unlike shared and VPS hosting, with a dedicated plan you'll receive exclusive access to your own private web server. With a dedicated hosting plan you'll also be able to change the software configuration of the server, and although this is sometimes allowed with certain comprehensive VPS hosting plans, nearly all dedicated hosting plans include this flexibility and freedom. Cloud VPS hosting is the only hosting type that can stand up against the reliability and sheer power of dedicated hosting, primarily because the cloud hosting environment utilizes dozens or hundreds of web servers simultaneously, rather than partitioning single servers.
